Join our multi-institutional team in advancing cutting-edge energy storage solutions that address global sustainability challenges. This position will conduct research under the Energy Storage Research Alliance, a DOE hub on energy storage.

The goal of this research is to unravel the fundamental chemistry of interfaces between non-aqueous electrolytes and solid electrolytes, as a function of cell potential. Experimental work will involve both classical and modern tools of analysis of electrochemical interfaces to establish rules of design for transformational electrolytes for metal and oxygen electrodes. The researcher will have access to state-of-the-art facilities in surface science and the Advanced Photon Source.

Position Requirements

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a closely related field; received within the last 5 years or upcoming year.
  • Strong background in the fundamental theories of electrochemical science, especially description of interfaces between solid electrodes and liquid electrolytes.
  • Experience in surface science approaches to electrochemical research, particularly the study of model systems and single crystal surfaces.
  • Experience in electro analysis, surface characterization, and in situ measurements for studies of interfacial dynamics.
  • Experience with non-aqueous electrolytes or batteries is welcome, but not required.
  • Ability to work in a large, dynamic and interdisciplinary team of leading chemists, physicists, and materials scientists.
  • Initiative to articulate, problem-solve and communicate research projects independently.
  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
