POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER - LOUIS R. LAPIERRE LABORATORY PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Aging is a formidable challenge in medicine and the Lapierre laboratory is at the forefront of the development of new therapeutic approaches against age-related diseases. The postdoctoral researcher (3-5 years position) will be involved in projects ranging from the study of new regulatory mechanisms of proteostasis and longevity using C. elegans and mammalian cell systems, to the development and validation of novel therapies against diseases of aging, including different cancers and neurodegenerative diseases. Our laboratory is located in the recently-built, state-of-the-art New Brunswick Center for Precision Medicine in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, with access to flurorescence microscopy (V20), confocal microscopy (FV3000), high content fluorescence imaging (Cytation5), as well as platforms for RT-qPCR (QuantStudio5), protein analysis (ChemiDoc) and sequencing (NovaSeq). Our research programs are currently funded by a 5-year Research Chair in Precision Medicine from NB Research and J-Louis Lévesque Fondation, a 5-year Discovery Grant from NSERC, and a 5-year Research Project Grant from CIHR. RESPONSIBILITIES: Design and Perform Independent Research Experiments (90%) Design and carry out experiments in C. elegans and mammalian cell systems (and potentially mice) using molecular biology (CRISPR-Cas9, DNA isolation, cloning and transfections, PCR, RNA isolation, RT-qPCR, RNAseq data analysis), biochemistry (protein analyses including isolation/purification, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, proteomic data analysis), genetics (crosses, RNAi silencing, transgenic strain development and phenotypic analyses), and cell biology (fluorescence, confocal and high-content microscopy). Develop and troubleshoot new assays as needed, analyze data, prepare publication-quality figures, write manuscripts, keep meticulous records and perform any other duties, as needed. Participate in training sessions in aging research and present research findings at regional, national and international meetings (Keystone, Cold Spring Harbor and Gordon meetings). Conduct training and administrative tasks associated with projects (10%) Manage several projects and mentor undergraduate students, update inventories and maintain records for RNAi, plasmids, strains and primers. Coordinate the maintenance and purchase of laboratory equipment and supplies, maintain project organization including databases and manuscript development using OneDrive and Slack. QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D in Biochemistry or related fields Publications in respected journals Self-motivation, independence and drive Excellent conceptual and analytical skills Technical proficiency in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Superior communication skills and English writing abilities Experience with C. elegans an asset, but not required Experience with online bioinformatics platforms an asset, but not required SALARY 60,000-65,000$ based on experience Our laboratory is an inclusive and supportive environment, and we strongly encourage motivated individuals from under-represented groups in science to apply. We value professional development and growth to set our staff and students for successful careers in science. Applicants should include a cover letter, a CV and names and contact information of 3 references.
