College/Department InformationThe Medical College of Georgia Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy is dedicated to understanding cellular function through state-of-the art research in areas such as autophagy and apoptosis, bone metabolism, developmental biology, molecular motors, dysphagia/swallowing disorders, exosome biology, renal disease, stem cell research, vision science (retina and cornea), and cell wounding. Our department is dedicated to understanding cellular function through state-of-the art research in areas such as autophagy and apoptosis, bone metabolism, developmental biology, molecular motors, dysphagia/swallowing disorders, exosome biology, renal disease, stem cell research, vision science (retina and cornea), and cell wounding. The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy has as its core mission the advancement of outstanding research and education. We work collaboratively to discover new knowledge through innovative biomedical research, to transmit that knowledge to students, and to train future researchers, educators, and health care professionals.
Job SummaryPerform administrative and technical work in support of research regarding retinal neurovascular biology and mechanisms of immune, neuron, and vascular interaction that control retinal neurovascular function during health and disease. Work with Principal Investigator and lab members to develop novel strategies for cell survival, vascular repair, and revascularization in diseases like retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
ResponsibilitiesThe duties include, but are not limited to:Experiments: Technical work includes Molecular/Cellular Biology experiments; Cell/Tissue culture; Animal
breeding/handling; Vision function assessment. Analyze results of experiments and procedures
using manual or computer techniques.
Project Planning & Protocols: Perform administrative and technical work in support of research initiatives in assigned laboratory.
Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to
accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines.
Scientific Literature & Meetings: Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Present findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally. Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles
prepared by others.
Administrative: Administrative functions include maintaining a detailed lab record and support daily lab operations.
Teach and participate in complex qualitative and quantitative analysis.
General Duties: Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work. Advise principal investigators, other Postdoctoral Fellows, students, and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research activities.
Other Duties: Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsPh.D. or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesProficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLSExcellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong prioritization and organizational skills.
ABILITIESAbility to maintain confidentiality. Ability to complete work and to meet deadlines. Willingness and ability to work with research animals. Ability to work independently with only general supervision.
Shift/Salary/BenefitsShift: Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
